• 1. The chain first, for what is actually quoted rather than what the model says.
• 2. Greeks and the vol surface next: the surface is where you see whether the strike you want is expensive relative to its neighbours.
• 3. Vol cone and term structure for whether the whole expiry is rich or cheap, and the pin-risk sheet if expiry is near.

The tell: A structure that looks good on payoff and bad on the surface is usually a structure you are paying too much for. Check both before sending it.
