Use it when: The default full-screen desk for a session you intend to trade actively, on one large monitor or two.
The wide version of a futures desk: the book in the middle, the tape beside it, and enough breadth and macro around the edge that you are not trading the index blind to what the rest of the market is doing.
Breadth and the sector treemap are the two that earn their space on an ES day. An index grinding up while breadth narrows is a different trade from one grinding up with everything participating - the ladder cannot tell you which you are in.
Watch the treemap for whether technology is carrying the move alone. NQ leading with only two sectors green is the setup that reverses hardest.
The world map and news rail are the crude legs here. Everything else on this desk is equity structure.
